"Sorry, Blame it on me" lyrics by Akon
Song analysis 2
Akon does an amazing job of portraying his message that people need to realize their mistakes and try to fix them. His song, “Sorry, Blame it on me”, is about realizing all of the errors he made in his life and that he needs to work on them. This song represents the theme of struggles through Hip Hop and Rap music. It talks about how Akon had to leave his home all of the time to go on tours and how he was never there for his girlfriend. Then, he apologizes to his mother for never making any right choices and not seeing how much pain she was in since his father left her. Finally, he talks about the scandal that was all over the news, which was about how he kissed an underage girl at a club. Not only were these apologetic pieces able to make the song a masterpiece, Akon was also able to use poetic devices to make his song that much better.
Not only was Akon able to create a top hit in the music industry, he was also able to apologize to his girlfriend while in the process of making it. Akon realizes that he is never home to spend any time with his girlfriend or his sons because he is always on music tours playing at different concerts. He states in his song, “I’m sorry for the fact that I did not know, that you were sitting home just wishing we, could go back to when it was just you and me.” He is apologizing because he can now see why his girlfriend was always upset. All she ever wanted was to spend some time with him, but he never made the time for her. He wants to make up with her and this is evident in the song when he says, “like how you are the best thing in my world, and how I’m so proud to call you my girl.” Akon is trying to make everything better between them, and this shows how he is a remarkable person.
Next, Akon apologizes for not seeing all of the pain that his mother has had to deal with, and also for adding more to it. His father was extremely nice to him and his brothers, but his father left his mother so he could get remarried to another women. Akon realizes now how lonely his mother must have felt because she did not have anyone else to talk to except for her husband, until he left her. Not only did he not realize that at the time, but Akon also, “added to your grief.” Akon is talking about how he added extra stress to his mother’s life, when it was really not necessary. Not only did Akon steal when he was little, but the police ended up coming to take him out of their home because he was such a bad child. This verse in the song is wonderful because Akon notices how hard it was for his mother to raise him and he is trying to repay her for all of the stress that she had to deal with along the way.
The last verse of the song is an apology directed to some of his fans. Akon went “on tour with Gwen Stefani” and one of his shows ended up at Club Zen. At concerts, sometimes the male singers, or rappers, choose a girl from the audience to come up on stage with them. The artist usually either dances with them or sings to them once they get up there. Since this was a “21 and older club”, Akon did not think that any of the girls would be underage. He ended up kissing the girl that he pulled onto stage with him and it was caught on video by all of his fans. Eventually, word spread around and the girl’s father found out and pressed charges against Akon. Akon does not feel as though anything that happened that night was his fault because he was under the impression that everyone was either twenty one years or older. He states, “Just a little young girl trying to have fun, her daddy should never let her out that young.” Akon is basically putting the blame on her father for letting her go out to a nightclub, but at the end of the verse he says, “even though the blame’s on you, I’ll take that blame from you.” Akon realizes that even though it is not completely his fault, he needed to grow up and take some of the blame for his actions.
Finally, Akon uses many different types of poetic devices in his song to make it flow smoothly. Two of the devices that he uses are rhyme and assonance. Assonance is the “repetition of vowel sounds to create internal rhyming within phrases or sentences.” Even though this type of repetition of sounds is hard to find while listening to songs, once the lyrics are read, it seems like it would be hard to even miss the phrases that have assonance in them. The words; take and blame, are an example of assonance within this song because they both have that long “a” sound in them. Another example is road and alone. These words have the repetition of the long “o” sound. The other type of poetic device that is used excessively in this song is rhyme. At the end of each line, the word that is there always rhymes with the following word at the end of the next line. Neglect and disrespect are an example of rhyme because they both end in “ect”, which makes them have similar soundings. Overall, Akon was able to do an excellent job in incorporating poetic devices into his song.
Akon is seen as one of the best Hip Hop artists that are around these days. He succeeded in not only creating an excellent single, but also in apologizing to his family and his fans. Akon was able to cope with the fact that he is not always right, and find a creative and inspirational way to apologize to those people who he loves the most. Sometimes life ends up throwing people curveballs in their daily lives and many people are not able to overcome those difficulties, like Akon was able to do. This proves Akon’s message that people need to first, realize what their mistakes are, then try and fix them. A lot of people do not have the chance to apologize in the way that Akon was able to, but at least they can realize that there are a lot of different ways in which they can apologize to someone. In the end, Akon was able to create an apology through a song, while also being creative by using poetic devices.
Found Poem
I’ve been to the bottom
Suffered a lot
I’ve repped for the hood
Seen pain and sorrow
Many have died
Many have bled
Some still wearing their scars
But they are on a mission
And only some are destined for greatness
But I refuse to lose
I will live my dreams
Because I deserve to be rich
After all, I am a ghetto survivor

Tupac: Gotta Keep Ya Head Up--Assonance
[Verse One:]
Some say the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
I say the darker the flesh then the deeper the roots
I give a holler to my sisters on welfare
Tupac cares, and don't nobody else care
And uhh, I know they like to beat ya down a lot
When you come around the block brothas clown a lot
But please don't cry, dry your eyes, never let up
Forgive but don't forget, girl keep your head up
And when he tells you you ain't nuttin don't believe him
And if he can't learn to love you you should leave him
Cause sista you don't need him
And I ain't tryin to gas ya up, I just call em how I see em
You know it makes me unhappy (what's that)
When brothas make babies, and leave a young mother to be a pappy
And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up
[Chorus]
Keep ya head up, oooo child things are gonna get easier
ooooo child things are gonna get brighter
[2x]
[Verse Two:]
Aiyyo, I remember Marvin Gaye, used to sing ta me
He had me feelin like black was tha thing to be
And suddenly tha ghetto didn't seem so tough
And though we had it rough, we always had enough
I huffed and puffed about my curfew and broke the rules
Ran with the local crew, and had a smoke or two
And I realize momma really paid the price
She nearly gave her life, to raise me right
And all I had ta give her was my pipe dream
Of how I'd rock the mic, and make it to tha bright screen
I'm tryin to make a dollar out of fifteen cents
It's hard to be legit and still pay tha rent
And in the end it seems I'm headin for tha pen
I try and find my friends, but they're blowin in the wind
Last night my buddy lost his whole family
It's gonna take the man in me to conquer this insanity
It seems tha rain'll never let up
I try to keep my head up, and still keep from gettin wet up
You know it's funny when it rains it pours
They got money for wars, but can't feed the poor
Say there ain't no hope for the youth and the truth is
it ain't no hope for tha future
And then they wonder why we crazy
I blame my mother, for turning my brother into a crack baby
We ain't meant to survive, cause it's a setup
And even though you're fed up
Huh, ya got to keep your head up
[Chorus]
[Verse Three:]
And uhh
To all the ladies havin babies on they own
I know it's kinda rough and you're feelin all alone
Daddy's long gone and he left you by ya lonesome
Thank the Lord for my kids, even if nobody else want em
Cause I think we can make it, in fact, I'm sure
And if you fall, stand tall and comeback for more
Cause ain't nuttin worse than when your son
wants to kno why his daddy don't love him no mo'
You can't complain you was dealt this
hell of a hand without a man, feelin helpless
Because there's too many things for you to deal with
Dying inside, but outside you're looking fearless
While tears, is rollin down your cheeks
Ya steady hopin things don't all down this week
Cause if it did, you couldn't take it, and don't blame me
I was given this world I didn't make it
And now my son's getten older and older and cold
From havin the world on his shoulders
While the rich kids is drivin Benz
I'm still tryin to hold on to my survivin friends
And it's crazy, it seems it'll never let up, but
please... you got to keep your head up

Day N Nite Lyrics--Alliteration
Day N Nite Lyrics
Day n nite. I toss and turn, I keep stressin’ my mind, mind.
I look for peace, but see I don’t attain.
What I need for keeps this silly game we play, play.
Now look at this.
Madness the magnet keeps attracting me, me.
I try to run, but see I’m not that fast.
I think I’m first but surely finish last, last.
‘Cause day n nite,
the lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite.
He’s all alone through the day n nite.
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at nite, ah ah at nite.
Day n nite.
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite.
He’s all alone, some things will never change.
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at nite, ah ah at nite
Hold the phone.
The lonely stoner- Mr. Solo Dolo.
He’s on the move, can’t seem to shake the shade.
Within his dreams he sees the life he made.
Made.
The pain is deep.
A silent sleeper, you won’t hear a peep, peep.
The girl he wants don’t seem to want him too.
It seems the feelings that she had are through.
Through.
Cause day n nite.
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite
He’s all alone through the day n nite.
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at nite, ah ah at nite.
Day n nite.
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite.
He’s all alone, some things will never change.
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at nite, ah ah at nite
Slow mo.
When the tempo slows up and creates that new, new.
He seems alive, though he is feelin blue.
The sun is shinin man he’s super cool.
Cool.
The lonely nites, they fade away he slips into his white Nikes.
He smokes a clip and then he’s on the way,
To free his mind in search of…
To free his mind in search of…
To free his mind in search of…
Day n nite.
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite
He’s all alone through the day n nite.
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at nite, ah ah at nite.
Day n nite.
The lonely stoner seems to free his mind at nite.
He’s all alone, some things will never change.
The lonely loner seems to free his mind at night, ah ah at night.

Repetition
"Vacation" by Young Jeezy uses anaphora. The repetition in this song enhances it because Young Jeezy is talking about how "tired" he is and how badly he "needs a vacation" from his daily life. He has to deal with so much stress and it is getting to be overwhelming. He says, "I'm stressed out...so tired" which proves that he needs to find an escape. Sometimes having all of the fame and fortune that he has, becomes too much and this is why he repeats that he "needs a vacation"

Metaphor Song #2
"Like Toy Soldiers" by Eminem
Step by step, heart to heart, left right left We all fall down...
[Chorus] Step by step, heart to heart, left right leftWe all fall down like toy soldiers Bit by bit, torn apart, we never win But the battle wages on for toy soldiers
[Verse 1] I'm supposed to be the soldier who never blows his composure Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders I am never supposed to show it, my crew ain't supposed to know it Even if it means goin' toe to toe with a Benzino it don't matter I'd never drag them in battles that I can handle unless I absolutely have to I'm supposed to set an example I need to be the leader, my crew looks for me to guide 'em If some s*** ever just pop off, I'm supposed to be beside 'em Now Ja said 'I tried to squash it, it was too late to stop it' There's a certain line you just don't cross and he crossed it I heard him say Hailie's name on a song and I just lost it It was crazy, this shit be way beyond some Jay-z and Nas s*** And even though the battle was won, I feel like we lost it I spent too much energy on it, honestly I'm exhausted And I'm so caught in it I almost feel I'm the one who caused it This ain't what I'm in hip-hop for, it's not why I got in it That was never my object for someone to get killed Why would I wanna destroy something I help build It wasn't my intentions, my intentions was good I went through my whole career without ever mentionin' Suge Now it's just out of respect for not runnin' my mouth And talkin' about something that I knew nothing about Plus Dre told me stay out, this just wasn't my beef So I did, I just fell back, watched and gritted my teeth While he's all over t.v. down talkin' a man who literally saved my life Like f*** it i understand this is business And this s*** just isn't none of my business But still knowin' this s*** could pop off at any minute cuz
[Chorus]
[Verse 2] There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme And wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin' But now it's elevated cuz once you put someone's kids in it The shit gets escalated, it ain't just words no more is it? It's a different ball game, callin' names and you ain't just rappin' We actually tried to stop the 50 and Ja beef from happenin' Me and Dre had sat with him, kicked it and had a chat with him And asked him not to start it he wasn't gonna go after him Until Ja started yappin' in magazines how we stabbed him Fuck it 50 smash 'em, mash 'em and let him have it Meanwhile my attention is pullin' in other directions Some receptionist at The Source who answers phones at his desk Has an erection for me and thinks that I'll be his ressurection Tries to blow the dust off his mic and make a new record But now he's f***** the game up cuz one of the ways I came up Was through that publication the same one that made me famous Now the owner of it has got a grudge against me for nothin' Well f*** it, that mutherf***** can get it too, f*** him then But I'm so busy being pissed off I don't stop to think That we just inherited 50's beef with Murder Inc. And he's inherited mine which is fine ain't like either of us mind We still have soldiers that's on the front line That's willing to die for us as soon as we give the orders Never to extort us, strictly to show they support us We'll maybe shout 'em out in a rap or up in a chorus To show them we love 'em back and let 'em know how important it is To have runyun avenue and who sulked us up in our corners Their loyalty to us is worth more than any award is But I ain't tryna have none of my people hurt and murdered There ain't words that I can't think of a perfecter way to word it Then to just say that I love ya'll too much to see the virdict I'll walk away from it all before I let it go any further But don't get it twisted, it's not a plea that I'm coppin' I'm just willin' to be the bigger man If ya'll can quit poppin' off at your jaws with the knockin' Cuz frankly I'm sick of talkin' I'm not gonna let someone elses coffin rest on my conscience cuz
[Chorus]
"Like Toy Soldiers" by Eminem is about being the bigger man and not trying to get into any fights that may jeopardize his "followers" lives. Eminem does not want to be at fault for getting his friends killed because he cannot live with that on his conscience. He uses the metaphor, "There's a certain line you just don't cross" because he knows that people can only go so far until someone snaps. There is not really an actual line that people can see, but people know how far they can test the waters before they end up in trouble. Another metaphor that Eminem uses is, "We all fall down like toy soldiers" to show that eventually, everyone is going to end up failing, but they have to remain stong. Toy soldiers are always seen as strong and brave but eventually they fall, like everyone else does. Finally, "Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders"means that Eminem feels like everyone is watching his every move. He feels as though people are pressuring him to be how they expect him to be and the pressure is getting to him. It is hard for him to be strong for everyone else, when he feels like he can barely make it in the world. Overall, Eminem is one of the best rappers out there whom is able to get his point across through metaphors.
Metaphor Song #1
Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunityTo seize everything you ever wanted, one momentWould you capture it, or just let it slip? Yo
His palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavyThere's vomit on his sweater already, mom's spaghettiHe's nervous, but on the surface he looks calm and readyTo drop bombs, but he keeps on forgettin'What he wrote down, the whole crowd goes so loudHe opens his mouth, but the words won't come outHe's chokin' how, everybody's chokin' now The clock's run out, time's up, over, bloah!Snap back to reality, oh, there goes gravityOh, there goes Rabbit, he choked, he's so madBut he won't give up that easy, no, he won't have itHe knows his whole back's to these ropesIt don't matter, he's dopeHe knows that, but he's broke, he's so stagnant, he knowsWhen he goes back to his mobile home, that's when it'sBack to the lab again, yo, this whole rhapsodyHe better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him
You better lose yourself in the music, the momentYou own it, you better never let it go You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
You better lose yourself in the music, the momentYou own it, you better never let it go You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow This opportunity comes once in a lifetime
The soul's escaping through this hole that is gaping This world is mine for the taking, make me kingAs we move toward a new world orderA normal life is boring, but superstardom's close to post-mortemIt only grows harder, only grows hotterHe blows us all over, these hoes is all on himCoast to coast shows, he's known as the globetrotterLonely roads, God only knows he's grown farther from homeHe's no father, he goes home and barely knows his own daughterBut hold your nose cuz here goes the cold waterThese hoes don't want him no mo', he's cold productThey moved on to the next schmoe who flowsHe nose dove and sold nadaSo the soap opera is told and unfolds, I suppose it's old partnerBut the beat goes on da da dum da dum da da

No more games, I'ma change what you call rage Tear this mothaf*****' roof off like 2 dogs caged I was playin' in the beginnin, the mood all changed I been chewed up and spit out and booed off stage But I kept rhymin' and stepwritin' the next cypher Best believe somebody's payin' the pied piper All the pain inside amplified by the factThat I can't get by with my nine to fiveAnd I can't provide the right type of life for my familyCuz man, these goddam food stamps don't buy diapers And it's no movie, there's no Mekhi PhiferThis is my life, and these times are so hardAnd it's getting even harder tryin' to feed and water my seed, plus Teetertotter caught up between bein a father and a prima donna Baby mama drama screamin on and too much for me to wannaStay in one spot, another day of monotonyHas gotten me to the point I'm like a snailI've got to formulate a plot or end up in jail or shot Success is my only mothaf*****' option, failure's not Mom, I love you, but this trailer's got to go I cannot grow old in Salem's lot So here I go with my shot, feet fail me notThis may be the only opportunity that I got
You better lose yourself in the music, the momentYou own it, you better never let it goYou only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blowThis opportunity comes once in a lifetime
You better lose yourself in the music, the momentYou own it, you better never let it goYou only get one shot do not miss your chance to blowThis opportunity comes once in a lifetimeYou can do anything you set your mind to, man
Lose Yourself by Eminem is about being able to make it as a rapper. Even though he went through as much as being "booed off stage", he did not let that stop him in his quest. He never let any opportunities of fame and fortune slip by him because Eminem believed that being famous was the only way he could make enough money to support his family. Food stamps and working a nine to five job were not his ideas of success, so he believed that if he kept trying, he would eventually get what it was that he wanted. He is able to portray these struggles that he faced by using many different metaphors. "You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow" is saying that people usually only end up with one chance to be famous and if they do not make the best of it, they could lose it. This is a metaphor because it sounds like it is talking about a gun, but it is talking about taking chances. Another metaphor is "The clock's run out" because a clock does not literally run out. Eminem is talking about time running out and missing the opportunity to do what you want in life because it may come unexpectedly. If they are not ready to take on the opportunity, then their time is going to run out and they will fail. Next, "The soul's escaping through this hole that is gaping" is another metaphor. It is saying that he is finally making it in the rap industry and success may come faster than he expected. Finally, "Best believe somebody's payin' the pied piper" means that eventually when you become famous, you are going to be paid. Overall, Eminem uses metaphors to show how important it was for him to become one of the best rappers of this time.
